The largest, stretching 3 km long and 900 meters wide. A true haven of peace, the island is subject to numerous stories and legends.
The walk on Sainte-Marguerite Island will relax you, enjoy the surrounding flora composed of pines, eucalyptus, arbutus, tree-like heather, cistus, rosemary… rich in scents, surrounded by water turquoise and the sun of the Côte d’Azur. This incredible panorama, conducive to relaxation, will amaze you.
You can visit the maritime museum, where Fort Royal is located, the former prison of the famous man in the iron mask, imprisoned in 1687. This structure was built by Richelieu, then fortified by Vauban in 1712.
Despite numerous hypotheses, no one has been able to solve the enigma of this illustrious and unknown prisoner.
You will also admire terrestrial and underwater archaeological Roman remains. In particular a beautiful collection of amphorae, Roman crockery and glassware, dried foods, pottery, found in the wrecks of Tradeliére (1st century) and Bataiguier (10th century). To discover them, you will cross ancient Roman baths, the remains of the laconium, and the ancient cisterns supplying the pools.
After about a 3.5 hour stopover, take the boat back towards Pointe de l’Aiguille in Théoule-sur-Mer. You will follow the coves of the Corniche d’Or with its red rocks, the coves of Anthéor and Barthelemy, the hamlets of Trayas and Agay, the islet of the old ones, and the ile d’Or, topped by the Cap Roux, Pic de l’Ours, Mont Vinaigre, the highest point of the Esterel massif.
If you have had the chance to admire the coves from the land side, you will appreciate discovering them from a completely different angle from the sea side.
Your boat will approach as close as possible to the coastline and take you where large boats cannot approach. Close to the coast, you will discover faults carved by erosion in the red rocks, secret coves accessible only by boat.
Make a stop under the Côte d’Azur sun with a cold drink while anchoring if the weather permits, during which you will have the opportunity to refresh yourself. You will approach the Ile d’Or from which Hergé took inspiration for his famous album “Tintin and the Black Island”.
You will perceive the secrets of the Corniche d’Or. This place is magnificent because of its colors and its biodiversity. Do not hesitate to ask your captain about the surrounding fauna and flora, as well as the geology of the place, he will be happy to answer you.
